No burning of incense or candles were seen inside these buildings. Cleaniness was order of the day - in buses, big or small towns, even fishing village, in fact almost everywhere. During my one week stay in Japan I found all public toilets were spotlessly clean. Wny is it so? My conclusion is that this national cleanliness habit is being nurtured through long period of time until it is become the national psychic of the Japanese people.Zenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07489706873295639555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1134927702478343838.post-10409311740204163912007-12-27T23:49:00.000-08:002007-12-27T23:49:00.000-08:00I think this could be due to the fact that S'porea...I think this could be due to the fact that S'poreans employ maids. Hence, they expect their maids to clean up after them.Fat Cathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05729083115071298492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1134927702478343838.post-88618980159158956662007-12-17T23:00:00.000-08:002007-12-17T23:00:00.000-08:00The clean culture of a society is not easy to evol...The clean culture of a society is not easy to evolve. The people of that particular country have to make a conscientious effort to do so, not just depending on enforcement by government authorities alone. Take for example why there is little littering in Tokyo streets despite not many litter bins are provided? When I was there I need to throw a piece of scrap paper but could not locate a public litter bin. So I had to keep this piece of paper in my pocket and eventually threw it into a bin provided inside a shop. I think it is a deliberate act to remind its citizens that it is their responsibility to dispose their own things in a correct manner, no one is going to make things easy for them. Contrarily litter bins are placed all over in Singapore public areas, but still littering is rampant - why?.Zenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07489706873295639555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1134927702478343838.post-39235257913784377002007-12-17T00:59:00.000-08:002007-12-17T00:59:00.000-08:00My daughter spent 2 weeks at a school in Japan as ...My daughter spent 2 weeks at a school in Japan as part of an exchange programme. Due to many years of 'drilling into the minds' corporate culture, the Japanese industries are able to inculcate this good habit in their workers, thus becoming some sort of second nature to them. Even simple house cleaning put me off, but I tell myself if I am not going to do it, then who will? I overcome this cleaning phobia by breaking this 'awesome' task into small 'portions' doing a piece at a time on daily basis and take a deep breath when the job is completed.Zenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07489706873295639555noreply@blogger.com
